Το 1969, η CIA στρατολογεί έναν πιλότο ελικοπτέρου, του οποίου η άδεια ανακλήθηκε έπειτα από επικίνδυνη πτήση, και τον στέλνει στο Λάος. Εκεί δραστηριοποιείται η Air America, μια τυπικά ανύπαρκτη εταιρεία που βοηθά τους ντόπιους προκειμένου να μη διάκεινται φιλικά προς τους Βιετκόνγκ.
